DEFINITION: Under general supervision, performs a variety of tasks involved in the technical maintenance, repair or construction of City water and wastewater facilities. Employees in this classification perform entry level manual work. Position is subject to being "on call" and working after normal City work hours as well as on weekends and holidays. This is an Emergency Essential position

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Not all inclusive): Performs distribution flushing and plans and/or directs field personnel in routine, emergency, and systematic flushing of water mains; notifies consumers and local Fire agencies of planned system flushing; opens and closes main gate valve blow-offs and hydrants by hand to accomplish flushing as required; monitors water quality, pressure, and runoff drainage visually and by gauge to determine the adequacy of flushing. Must be able to read and interpret blue prints of systems and maps. Performs basic maintenance, lubrication and repair of equipment, facilities, and tools. May be responsible for operating various vehicles and equipment. Assists in the maintenance, repair and construction of plant equipment and facilities. Operates various hand and power tools and equipment to service or maintain city facilities, and grounds. Reads meters as required. Assists in resolving customer problems and complaints. Performs lawn and grounds maintenance tasks. Cleans and maintains buildings and related equipment such as changing air filters and caring for ornamental plants, trees and landscaping. Installs and maintains fire hydrants in City service areas as required. Keeps inventory of parts and orders as necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED required, supplemented by a minimum of one (1) year related experience in the Utility field.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

Requires a Class B commercial driver's license, with air brakes and tanker endorsement with valid DOT medical card required or must be obtained within six (6) months of hire.

Must possess and maintain a Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Distribution Level III License.

Must possess or be able to obtain the following within the designated time frames listed below:

  • Backflow Tester & Repair Certification upon or within twelve (12) months of appointment to the position.
